McAlester, OK– A Freedom Vigil demanding freedom for Julius Jones will be held outside the Oklahoma State Penitentiary in McAlester, Oklahoma on the day of his execution. When Julius was just a 19-year-old student athlete on academic scholarship attending the University of Oklahoma, he was convicted of a murder he did not committ and has lost half his life in prison due to corrupt justice system in Oklahoma that has never valued Black life.

Why: On the day of Julius Jones’ execution this rally will be a final plea to Governor Stitt to free Julius and demand that the state of Oklahoma stop all executions.On Nov 1. Oklahoma’s Pardon and Parole Board voted 3-1 to recommend clemency for Julius Jones. Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has not moved on the recommendation to commute Julius’s death sentence to life in prison with the possibility of parole.
