On the Road to COP28

IEN is co-sponsoring a two-day event at The New School in NYC filled with educational panels, breakout sessions, a teach-in assembly and even a movement social!

Peoples’ Climate Week was a counter-space to mainstream NYC Climate Week events. The actions and events are another step to advance a Peoples’ Agenda to interrupt and disrupt the promotion of false solutions to climate change and other crises. The undeniable truth is that these false solutions are aggressively being advanced and in many cases, funded by corporate, governmental, and big NGO actors — whose presence dominated the official proceedings of the  NYC Climate Week for the UN Ambitions Summit, and UN Conferences of Parties.

This is a critical moment and urgency is needed, taking a clear path to regenerative forms of economic, social equity and well-being are imperative if we are to stop the deployment of false solutions that not only extends the era of fossil fuels but increases demand for exponentially more…

Environmental Justice Groups Host Response To False Solutions pushed at the UN Climate Ambition Summit

National climate justice leaders from organizations representing impacted, frontline communities will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 during NYC Climate Week to demand real climate solutions, a Just Transition, climate reparations, and a phase-out of fossil fuels.

Lenape Lands, New York City, NY— National climate justice leaders from organizations representing impacted, frontline communities will be holding a press conference on Tuesday, September 19, 2023 during NYC Climate Week to demand real climate solutions, a Just Transition, climate reparations, and a phase-out of fossil fuels.

The messages delivered on September 17 and in conferences throughout the week were very clear:

  • Ambitions pushed by politicians of nation-states inside the Climate Ambition Summit are False Solutions to climate mitigation whose real intentions are to expand the fossil fuels infrastructure enabling destructive industries to continue business as usual, destroying the land, air and water, while simultaneously exploiting workers and Mother Earth;
  • Participants in the March were there to demand real climate solutions, including Indigenous Peoples’ rights and knowledge systems that are critical to the development of to the Climate Crisis and achieving Climate Justice;
  • A Just Transition to sustainable economies can be created around cleanup of the mess that dirty energy has made, in a way that is as fair and inclusive of everyone, creating decent work opportunities and carefully managing challenges.
