IEN Condemns the Senseless Killing of a Legal Observer and Other Lawless Acts by ICE in a Minneapolis Neighborhood

For Immediate Release
 January 7, 2026

Indigenous Environmental Network condemns the murder of 37- year old mother, Renee Nicole Good, on a residential street, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on the afternoon of Wednesday, January 7, 2026. Masked ICE officers in unmarked vehicles, behaved as secret police using Gestapo-like tactics.

Over 2,000 federal agents, including ICE officers, have surged into the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St.Paul. IEN is concerned with the impact of ICE insurgence on the large population of American Indians living in the Twin Cities, which exceeds 35,000. There are also thousands of Indigenous Peoples residing in the cities that have immigrated from Mexico, Central and South America. Nationwide, there have been reports of Indigenous Peoples from North America, US citizens, being  arrested, having to prove they are not illegal immigrants.

IEN extends our deepest condolences to Good’s wife, child and family. She is remembered by all as a compassionate and kind person who advocated for peace and justice. Her involvement at the time of her death was related to her training as a legal observer, monitoring an immigration enforcement operation in her neighborhood as a concerned community member.

Eyewitnesses state Good, at the wheel of her SUV, was attempting to comply with shouted orders to leave the area when multiple masked ICE officers exited their vehicles with weapons drawn, aggressively approaching her vehicle while shouting at her.

Videos have shown that as Good slowly moved forward and away from the area as directed, one masked officer grabbed for her vehicle door while a second officer took one shot throught the windshield and then pointed his gun into the open window and fired two more rounds into her head at point blank range. The video showed her front tires turned to the right, moving away from the area, with no evidence she was trying to use her vehicle as a weapon to hit any ICE agent.

President Trump and his administration are spinning the ICE agent’s actions in shooting Ms. Good as an act of self-defense. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem defended the use of force by ICE agents, calling Good’s actions “an act of domestic terrorism. The local community, Minneapolis mayor, and the governor of Minnesota dispute the claims of the Trump administration. Renee Good was not a terrorist.

IEN also denounces the increasingly militarized occupation by ICE in Minneapolis and other cities, deemed political enemies by the Trump administration. Fast becoming an unrestrained and unaccountable paramilitary force under Trump, American public safety continues to be at risk.

IEN calls for the arrest of the ICE officer who shot and killed Ms. Good, an independent, full and fair, investigation of her killing, a recall of ICE from American cities and an end to the wearing of all masks by any law enforcement officers patrolling American streets, neighborhoods, and communities.
