THE STORY OF STUFF
All our stuff comes from somewhere, that meaning that someplace on the face of this Mother Earth, there is a new forest clear-cut or rainforest conversion, or a mine, or some other form of extraction. It all starts somewhere. Many times these projects are on what is, or was, Indigenous Lands. As we accumulate, utilize, and dispose of our stuff, this sets in motion an entire sequence of events that accomplishes a wide variety issues related to the global economy we live in today. Many of the events in this sequence are not sustainable. By conducting business in the manner that we are, we are robbing future generations of all species of their inheritance to a clean and healthy planet.
The Story of Stuff, in twenty short minutes, gives us a profile of the sometimes un-thought of, and many times, unhealthy relationships we have with our stuff. From raw resource extraction to disposal, our stuff leaves a trail of displaced people and underpaid workers to toxic manufacturing and disposal practices. Please see this action packed video starring Annie Leonard.
And please, the next time you are contemplating buying some stuff, take a moment to reflect on the source, disposition and need, of your stuff.

"Oure will be here, because according to out traditions in this valley, this is where we came. This peoplis where we exist, and when mining comes, it's a form of genocide … a systematic destruction of a race of people. And when this comes in, this mining comes in, it is a destruction of out way of life."
