Concerned Tribal Members of the Mole Lake Sokaogon Chippewa Community Take Over the Tribal Administration Building in Mole Lake, Wisconsin
Approximately 40 Mole Lake tribal members of the Mole Lake Sokaogon Chippewa Community near Crandon, Wisconsin have taken over the tribal administration building. They took over the tribal offices this Thursday, May 1, 1997. Some of the issues that the tribal community members are concerned about are related to Exxon/Rio Algom's Crandon mine development and tribal affairs. The concerned community members are asking for the removal of their Tribal Chairman, Arlyn Ackley Sr.; an investigation of the association of Wisconsin Governor Thompson and his attorney's with Exxon's interference with Mole Lake tribal operations; a restoration of their civil rights and employee rights; an audit of all tribal funds including casino funds; and the removal of their tribal environmental engineer and tribal planner.
