IEN is based in the United States. The U.S. is opposing climate text at the UN conference. The U.S. is resisting efforts at the U.N. climate conference to suggest that upcoming negotiations consider a specific range of targets for sharp cuts in greenhouse-gas emissions. The U.S. is expected to successfully stall the process, since Bali's decisions require consensus, and the final "Bali roadmap" is expected to be what has been long anticipated - a vague, broad mandate for two years of negotiations on an agreement to succeed the Kyoto Protocol when it expires in 2012. IEN is working with other Indigenous peoples from around the world to provide a strong Indigenous voice and presence at the conference. |
The Indigenous Peoples, especially the ones from forested lands in Indonesia, Latin Americas, and Southeast Asia, and other local forest peoples, protested against negotiations within the UNFCCC meeting that established provisions for forests to be used in carbon trading and sink scams.
